A Peek Inside of My Freshman Year Dorm Room

 Hey y'all!

This post has been frequently requested ever since I moved into my dorm. But believe it or not, it takes quite a bit of time to get settled. Now halfway through my freshman year, I am finally ready to show y'all what my dorm room looks like!

I went with a pink, gold, navy and white theme. Honestly, most of my friends did the exact same colors! My very pinterest-y mother made me this blue and white polka dot headboard! It was super easy! Although I would LOVE to tell y'all where I got my pillows from, unfortunately, I can't. My friend's mother is an interior designer and handpicked these out for me. ( Same goes for the acrylic and gold striped lamp! )

For some more ideas on how to make your dorm feel like a home away from home, check out my blog post!

If you have any questions in particular about where something was purchased, leave a comment down below or shoot me an email!

Must Try Skincare Routine for Acne-Prone Skin

Hey y'all!

We have all been there. A stress pimple here, a hormonal zit there, or even blackheads that never really seem to go away. My skin has never been perfect. I suffered from EXTREME cystic acne throughout high school. It made me self-conscious and uncomfortable. I felt like I constantly had to wear makeup which only seemed to make the acne worse.

I had tried everything. I went to my dermatologist and was told to use this routine twice a day.

  1. Use PanOxyl Acne Creamy Wash. I used this with my Clarisonic (regular brush head). Start out using it once a day, because it WILL DRY YOUR SKIN OUT. The first week I used it, my face was actually peeling and was extremely painful because I used it twice a day. My skin wasn't used to that much benzoyl peroxide.
  2. As a daytime moisturizer, I used this Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer. Since it has 30 SPF, it was a great substitution for sunscreen. It is really important to wear sunscreen at all times. It helps prevent acne scarring and redness.
  3. For night time, I used this CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion
It was that easy! Or so I thought..after a few months of using it, I honestly didn't see much a difference. Yes, there was less acne but it wasn't gone. I'm sure the routine above will work for a lot of people, so that is why I am sharing it with you. ( Free dermatologist advice..why the heck not? )

But for those of you who have sensitive combination skin type, this is the routine that works best for me! I only do this at night time, however.
  1. Regardless if I wear make-up or not, I wipe my face clean with a makeup remover wipe. Your skin gets dirty throughout the day, so a quick cleanse is good to help get all that build up off.
  2. In the shower, I use St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub and follow it with my Philosophy Pure Facial Cleanser.
  3. Once a week, I use the 'Mask of Magnanimity' from LUSH cosmetics. I spread it on, leave it for ten minutes, and then I wash it off with warm water. My skin feels so fresh and deeply cleansed.
  4. Then I use my 'Grease Lightning' which is also from LUSH cosmetics. This is a holy grail product. I can put this on an inflamed pimple and it will be so much better looking in the morning. Much less red and smaller in size.
  5. After I wait for the product from step 3 to dry, I go in with Aveeno moisturizer. It leaves me feeling moisturized without clogging my pores.

Some quick tips!

  • Use makeup sparingly, and ALWAYS wash your face after.
  • Focus on buying non-comedogenic products. This means they are specially formulated to not cause blocked pores.
  • Remember to moisturize!! (Even if you're oily)

Do you have any tips or products that you just can't live without? Let me know in the comments below! I always love trying out new things.

November Favorites + BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey y'all!

So I have FINALLY decided that I would like to start using a YouTube channel along with my blog. It is something I feel strongly towards and I hope it will allow me to improve my brand. Not only will I be able to upload frequently, but it will be a lot easier than taking photos. Believe it or not, it takes a lot to have to line schedules up with someone to take photos for me!

Let me just apologize for the lighting. It decided to start raining as I was filming, but I promise the next video will be a lot better quality! I really hope you enjoy my first video and let me know what you think in the comments below! Also, if you have any ideas of things you would like to see in the future, send me a tweet.

Dip-Dyed Dress

Hey y'all!

My family is nowhere near traditional nor are we American, so the whole ordeal of Thanksgiving for us is a bit different. Yes, we love having a day to be thankful for everything in our lives but since most of our family is located all over the world, it's not a time for us to come together and share a turkey leg. So we like to relax!

My mother, father and I all went to Pensacola, Florida for a week of beach vacation. It was the perfect weather and it was extremely relaxing. Some serious destress time before dead week starts.
How cute is this dip-dyed dress? I love it! It's so perfect and flowy for the beach. It can easily be dressed up with a pair of wedges and a cute coat or it can just be super casual with a pair of sandals and reflective sunnies.

Although I couldn't find the exact dress I'm wearing, here are a few other great and affordable options!

An Open Letter to My Best Friend in a Different Sorority

Dear Best Friend in a Different Sorority,

Firstly, let me say how proud of us I am. We have come such a long way since being PNMs. Do you remember months before recruitment how nervous we were? Remember how we joked about creating our own sorority so that we would both be guaranteed a bid? We were paranoid, but at least we had each other to panic text.

Every morning before rush, I was thankful for you to tell me which shoes looked better with my dress and that my eyeliner didn't match up on both eyes. Each day getting my list back, I was so nervous, but you helped calm me down by saying "you only need one at the end of the week." You were my mom away from home. Even after an exhausting long day of forced smiles and small talk, it was nice to come home and just decompress all of my thoughts with you. ( even if we did cry about a lanyard in the middle of Target )

I am so happy that both of us found a home this August. Was I a little bummed that we weren't running to the same lawn on Bid Day? Yes, of course. Do you even realize how cute our pictures would have been if we had pledged the same sorority? We would have been sooo obnoxious, but for Instagram's sake, I guess it is a good thing we aren't sisters.

If we're being honest here, the only thing we don't share is letters. Although it seems like most people just automatically assume we're in the same sorority (or roommates). Yes, sometimes it does suck not getting to eat lunch at the same house or have the same groups of friends. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Who else am I supposed to bitch to?

Even though we aren't sisters, we do share a special kind of bond. Thank you for putting up with my rants, going with me to get frozen yogurt, helping me conquer frat row and making sure I eat Waffle House after a long Friday Night of studying. I am so happy that recruitment brought us together and I could not imagine my life without you.

All my love,

As Cute As a Pumpkin

Hey y'all!

This weekend my sorority had a sisterhood event at the Tuscaloosa Barnyard. It was an absolute blast! There were so many cool animals that we got to pet, hold and even feed! It is an adorable little barnyard and if you're ever in the area, you should definitely check it out. It was so fun getting to see everyone all decked out in their fall inspired outfits. I can't wait until game day this weekend to see everyone dressed up as we take on Tennessee.

Like my shirt? Get it here. Shoot me an email to receive a promotional code!

Be sure to check out my fall bucket list and also see what I was up to this time last year!

What Dressing Like a Sorority Girl Has Taught Me

Hey y'all!

One of the best decisions I made when I first came to college was joining a sorority. I am a member of Kappa Alpha Theta at the University of Alabama. I absolutely love being a part of this sisterhood and it has taught me so much about myself. I have learned patience, confidence and how to love others. But dressing like a "typical sorority girl" has taught me a few things too.

1. The uglier the footwear, the comfier it is.
Chacos? Check. Birkenstocks? Check. OTBTs? Oh yes, a HUGE check. You might swear that you will never wear a pair, but once you try them on, you'll understand the hype.

1a. It is necessary to have a good pair of tennis shoes for every day those days when you have to sprint to class.

2. Big t-shirts are for more than just hiding your Chipotle food babies.
Did I wake up like this ( flawless 💁)? Did I just go to the gym? Was I wearing this yesterday? The world may never know. It may be one hundred degrees outside, but my xl t-shirt doesn't let the sweat stains show.

2a. You will spend too much money on t-shirts.
JNJ will slowly drain your bank account..but hey, at least you can put off doing laundry for another week..

3. The more 90's, the better.
Go through your old clothes from childhood because scrunchies, flannels, and converse are back in action. And all I can say is, I hope it stays that way.

4. Bralettes are a gift from heaven.
Let's be real here. Who actually enjoys wearing a bra? No one, that's who. But for those of us who aren't about to 'free the nipple', bralettes let us feel rebellious without being scandalous.

5. Pearl chokers go with LITERALLY EVERYTHING.
This is self-explanatory..

6. When in doubt (or have very little time), do a party pony.
No one will ever know how many days it has been since you last showered.

7. No matter the what the weather is, sunglasses are always appropriate.
Your future may just be bright enough for you to wear shades or you may just be extremely hungover. Do not fret, it's in style.

And last but not least, 8. It's okay to dress like you're homeless.
People don't care how you dress, they care who you are. It's about how you treat others and what you do with your life. A hair and makeup team is not required to go to class (although that would be nice).

Texasweettea Travels to Scotland

Hey y'all!

These last few weeks, I have been in Scotland. Believe it or not, I am actually originally from there! Since I haven't seen any of my family that lives there for a whole two years, it was important for me to spend my time with them instead of on my computer.

Here are a few fun pictures from my vacation! Please excuse the messy hair, not-so-cute outfits, and no makeup look. It was very cold and rainy most of the time.

If you missed me, feel free to stay connected with me on my Instagram . It's my all-time favorite way of keeping y'all updated with what I'm doing!

Floral Romper

Hey y'all!

Can we just appreciate how perfect this romper is? Funny story about it though. I'm a five foot eight inch tall girl so normally rompers do not work on me at all. In fact, it can be quite comical to try them on. Well, I decided to try this one on because I was drawn to the bright blues and pinks. Needless to say, I fell in LOVE

And of course, I didn't have my wallet with me. So like a crazy person, I hid it inside of a rack to come back and purchase later. I showed my mom pictures and she loved it just as much as I did! We returned to the store, but my romper was nowhere to be found. We searched every rack and were about to give up hope when....a lady pulled THE ONLY SIZE SMALL off of a rack by the changing room.

So again, like a crazy person, I casually followed her around the store waiting for her to put it down. I even waited outside of the changing room. But, she bought it. My mom and I had given up hope and left the store.

I went back a week later just to do a scan through of anything new. And lucky me, I found the romper in my size! I didn't even hesitate to purchase it. Every time I wear it, I receive so many compliments. Although I couldn't find my exact romper, I linked a few cheap options below!
