Fall Break

Hey y'all!

First of all, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! This month went by so quickly, I feel like I just barely did my September monthly favorites. (Be sure to look out for an October favorites post next week).

Since we had a bye week here at Alabama, we had fall break. Basically, this means we didn't have school on Thursday and Friday. So my best friend, Sarah (yes we have the same name) and I headed to her hometown in Michigan!

It was my first time ever being in the state of Michigan, but I definitely can say that I loved it. I've never really experienced 'fall' before, but the leaves were incredible and I felt very #Instaworthy. We even went to a cider mill and had pumpkin donuts and apple cider!!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!

My Updated Skincare Routine

Hey y'all!

Last year, I did a post titled 'How I Got Rid of My Acne & How You Can Too!'  and it seemed to be something that a lot of people could relate to.   Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person struggling with acne, especially while in college when most people are over that stage of their life.   It can be a little discouraging when everyone else around you has 'perfect' skin, but you're stuck with scarring and occasional flare-ups. So yes, I still get breakouts even though I'm almost twenty years old,  but I'm here to update you on what I currently do to help my skin stay as clear as possible!

September Favorites

I'm a big fan of the cult-classic candle "Volcano" by Capri Blue, but I can't always justify the price tag. While browsing the candle aisle at my local target, I found this great dupe! It comes in an adorable tin can which can be used for storing jewelry after the candle is all burned out. I've been burning it every day because it's such a warm and cozy scent so it's just perfect for the fall!

A green primer can be a little intimidating. This one, in particular, has a nice thick consistency but it blends very easily. I apply it first, then do my eye makeup, and then I put on my foundation. I think by doing this, it allows it to become a little tackier which help my liquid foundation to stay put all day.

This powder foundation has such a smooth finish. I'm obsessed! I saw some bloggers rave about it so I wanted to test it out for myself. I use it to help set my entire face. It doesn't make me look cakey at all and I really do think it helps prolong my foundation. I have shade '25 Nude Beige'.

This month, Denny has been loving a new bed/scratching post that I purchased him from Petsmart. He lays in it all the time and it seems to have stopped him from clawing the couch (insert eye rolling emoji). I just thought he was too cute not to share!

Believe it or not, this skull was a Halloween decoration! It actually lights up green. I've wanted a bull skull for so long, but I haven't found one that's cute, yet still affordable. On Etsy, they usually start around 75$. I was lucky enough to snap this one up for only 30$! Plus, it's not real which makes me feel a lot better too.

After recently getting about 6 inches chopped off, I wanted to switch up my shampoo/conditioner . I've always heard good things about the Ogx brand. Plus, I'm a sucker for packaging. I really like shampoos that lather and this one seems to do the trick! As for the conditioner, I bought this based on a review from one of my favorite bloggers, Mackenzie Kendall. She swears by the stuff, so I purchased it. So far, I'm loving it and I really feel like it does make my ends more moisturized.

Cactus One-Piece

Hey y'all!

Can you believe it's already July? It feels like this summer has just flown by. I've spent a majority of it busy babysitting and dog sitting, attempting to save up some cash before heading back to college to blow it all on some cute new outfits  textbooks. Seriously, they're ridiculously expensive.

But, I recently went to the Galleria with my mother and did a little bit of damage to my "savings". I decided to pick up this fun and adorable printed one piece from Forever 21. I just love the muted colors and of course, the oh-so-trendy cactus. It's totally insta-worthy if you ask me. Unfortunately, it's sold out online but I have linked a few options below that are all under $100.

I paired it with these Free People shorts that I also got while at the Galleria. They were already on sale plus there was an extra 20% off so how could I say no? I absolutely love the way their denim fits and feels. Definitely worth the splurge if you ask me.

I head back to school at the end of this month to begin practicing for sorority recruitment. It feels like just yesterday I was preparing to rush! But I'm so excited to be on the other end of it.

Going Out Just Got Easier - The JimmyCASE Review

Hey y'all!

As some of you may know, I usually end up as the packed mule when it comes to going out at night. Since I carry a purse, all of my friends ask me to put their phone, wallet, keys, etc into my bag. And of course, I say yes because I have the extra room anyways.

But thanks to my friends at JimmyCASE, I don't have to worry about that anymore! This slim yet stylish phone case doubles as a wallet so I can just grab it and go instead of having to carry a bag with me. I know there are a lot of these types of phone cases on the market, but this particular one holds up to 6 cards as well as cash without getting overstretched.

As soon as I received my iPhone 6+ Wallet Case, I put it on and went to dinner with some friends. I was surprised at how many compliments I received on it! When it came time to get the check, it was nice knowing exactly where my cards were without having to search through my purse for my wallet. (If you're anything like me, your phone is basically attached to you) Inside of the elastic, I had my drivers license, debit card, credit card and a 20$ bill. Even with all of this stuff, I never once felt like any of it would fall out.

The quality of the case  is unbelievable. The wood backing is so smooth and soft. Plus I love how the light color wood looks with the pink and grey on the elastic fabric. But if this isn't your style, there are still plenty of other color combinations to pick from as well as a customizable option where you can pick a bumper color, wood shade, and fabric colors! The options are truly endless.

I personally can't wait to go back to school and get to use this phone case to hold my student ID. I think this case is perfect for high school and college students alike. If y'all are interested in purchasing one for yourself or a friend, then head on over to thejimmycase.com and pick one up!

* This product was received for free but all my opinions are my own!

The Four Types of College Roommates

Hey y'all!

The best (and worst) part of college is having to have a roommate. Whether they're randomly assigned or you met via Facebook, you're bound to end up having some issues with them. Maybe they leave dirty dishes in the sink, or even worse, they try to join in on every plan you make with your actual friends. Either way, you're probably stuck with them for the year...unless things get REALLY bad.

An Open Letter to My Parents on Their 22nd Anniversary

Dear Mom and Dad,

Happy Anniversary! I hope that your twenty-second is just as great as the first. You both really deserve a special day (but you're coming to visit me so of course, it will be special).

First of all, I want to thank you for teaching me what love is. I will never forget over the summer when Dad was in the hospital and Mom said to me "make sure you find someone who you would be willing to take for in sickness and in health". And I don't think I took that seriously before. Love is taking care of your partner through the best times and the worst times. Most people skip out on the bad part though. But not y'all. Mom, when you stayed home to be with Dad even though I knew how badly you wanted to come to Scotland with us, that was what love is. (And Dad you did the same for Mom over winter break!! Y'all get surgery too much..)

Secondly, thank you for teaching me what love looks like. The fact that I can say my parents are still together is amazing. So many kids my age can't say the same. But y'all are different because you make an effort to still hold hands and kiss (even though sometimes it's a little weird). And now that I'm at college, y'all go on dates and do romantic things. I know that our family went through some hard times for a few years but we all made it through that. I'm overjoyed that you are both so happy together. I hope that when I get married, I still am that in love with my husband after twenty-two years.

Lastly, thank you for showing me that someone will (and most importantly, should) love me unconditionally. Too many young people settle for someone just because it's easy or just because they want a significant other. But you have both pushed me to find someone who makes me be the best version of myself and someone who challenges me (Lord knows I need it!). Without your guidance, I'm not sure where I would be with my love life. By setting a great example for me, I know what I want and what I'm looking for. So, thank you, Mom and Dad.

Love from,
Your Thankful Daughter

FREE To Do List Printable

Hey y'all!

I wanted to do something fun for the blog this week! Since it's spring, I know a lot of people have started their spring cleaning. I'm one of those people who has to make a list for everything. I made this fun printable for myself and I thought y'all would enjoy it too! Click here to download this to do list.

6 Relationship Questions Answered by a Long-distance Couple

Hey y'all!

I've wanted to do a post about my long-distance relationship for a while, but I couldn't really think of what exactly to write about. So thanks to our friend Ian, he wrote us a list of questions to answer! S is for Sarah aka me, and the M is for Michael aka my boyfriend!

What motivates you to stay confident and never give up in your relationship?
S: Knowing that Michael loves and supports me in every single choice that I make really helps me get through the hard times.

M:  Looking forward to the next time we see each other. It's hard being away from each other but looking forward to the future when it won't be an issue anymore helps make it easier for the time being.

What kinds of challenges have you had to overcome?
S: Whenever one of us is sad or sick, it's hard to not be there to comfort them. And sometimes people aren't supportive of our relationship. It hurts but I have to remind myself that it's not their relationship, it's mine. So if I'm happy, that's all that matters.

M: For me, the biggest challenge is the distance. Knowing that other people get to spend time with Sarah while I am stuck miles away missing her can be hard. Both of us can be protective and learning to trust each other and not get upset is a challenge that isn't easy to overcome.

What advice would you give those also in a long distance relationship?
S: It's honestly so worth it. I know it isn't for everyone but I promise it is worth it. Not to sound cheesy but it's true that when you love someone, no distance is too far.

M: Stay strong and remember why you are in a relationship with that person.   Don't let the small things get you down and try to remember the big picture. Spend time on skype together and come up with fun ways to communicate that make the distance seem like a small obstacle.

What personal growth have you recognized while in your relationship?
S: I have become a much more patient person. My parents have also noted that I have become a kinder and more confident young woman. Michael pushes me to do what I love and tells me to not worry about what other people think.

M: I've become a more caring person.   Being with the person you love makes things that used to seem like chores rewarding and fun. I've also developed more patience. Waiting to see Sarah can be hard, but the payoff is so worth it that it helps remind me to be patient.

Other than your significant other, who has been your biggest supporter(s)/motivator(s)
S: My mom, definitely. She loves Michael! She continuously tells me that she will be extremely surprised if we don't end up getting married. It makes me happy that my family loves him almost as much as I do.

M: My family has been very supportive of our relationship, even before meeting her.   They want me to be happy and they know that Sarah is good for me.

What accomplishments are you proud of in your relationship?
S: I'm proud that we have been able to handle two years of long-distance. It has been very hard but it will all be worth it.

M: Being together for over 2 years is a huge accomplishment, especially considering we only see each other every 2-3 months usually.   I think staying committed and together while we are both at college is an accomplishment and moving in together this summer will be the next big step.

I hope that these provide some insight to what it's like for us (and for other long-distance couples). I think that there is a lot of judgement surrounding these types of relationships when they are honestly just like any other relationship.

LUSH Review: The Golden Egg

Hey y'all!

Being back home for spring break was awesome because I got to visit my favorite store ever, LUSH! Not to mention it was nice actually having a place to take a bath. So you better believe that I went in and bought an Easter-themed goodie!

I saw the "Golden Egg" and I knew I had to have it. Not only is it my favorite color, but it's covered in GLITTER! And when I say covered, I'm not kidding. I had it stuck to my fingers for hours after picking it up.

According to LUSH, this product is described as:
"Creamy honey-toffee luxury. How do you like your eggs? Toffee-scented with glittering gold and packed full of fair trade cocoa butter? Soak in a dazzling bath of moisturizing olive oil and golden luster until your skin feels softer than caramel and smells more scrumptious than anything from Mr. Wonka's factory. Uplifting bergamot and sweet, wild orange oils help to tone and brighten the skin, and give a sweet fruitiness to this most luxurious soak."
So this product is a bath bomb melt. That means that it works like a regular bath bomb and will change the bathwater a different color BUT it also has a melty center which leaves your skin moisturized. I was a bit skeptical but I definitely noticed a difference in my skin. It had such a nice silky-smooth feeling to it that I kept making people feel my leg, saying "feel how smooth!"

Unfortunately, the color that the water turns is not very aesthetically pleasing. It's a yellow-orange mixture, so it's definitely not "insta-worthy" but the egg itself is. Remember that since this product is for Easter, it is limited edition! So if you're looking to try out a new bath bomb, check this one out! You won't be disappointed.

☻  Long-lasting

☻   Limited edition
☻   Color of bathwater

Be sure to check out my skincare routine that features a few other of my favorite LUSH products!

9 Dorm Room Essentials You'll Actually Use

Hey y'all!

My freshman year is almost over, unfortunately! I have loved every second of it. I would give anything to go back to this time last year and get to relive my freshman experience all over again. If you're about to head off to college, get ready to have the best year of your life!

By far, the worst part about going to college is having to live in a dorm. I'm fortunate enough to have my own room because I live in a suite style community. So I asked my roomies' opinions on this list and we have compiled some things that we are thankful for bringing to college!

I'm turning into a 'Facebook Mom' (and I'm okay with it)

We all know a "Shannon". She has at least two kids, is over the age of 40, and is constantly on Facebook. She shares every article (even the ones that clearly aren't true) and feels the need to post a status update at least once a day. She may even post the occasional "relaxing with some wine" status. Anytime she writes ANYTHING, it's followed by a million exclamation or question marks, because, we get it Shannon...you're a very excited person. With lots of hugs and kisses and even a few LOL's, she always feels the need to note how grown up you look in your profile picture. Your timeline is probably constantly clogged with her crap comments, but for some reason, you just don't have the heart to delete her. (And let's be honest, you're always guaranteed a like on your profile pic)

My friends and I have this running joke where we comment on each other's walls or pictures with things like:

Yes, this post is a joke but...

I might actually be becoming a "Shannon". In high school, I avoided Facebook like the plague. The only reason I had one was in case I needed to do some creeping.

But, college has changed me into an old woman who results to scrolling through her timeline when she has nothing better to do -- or better yet, is avoiding her responsibilities. After any event, I upload all the cute (some not-so-cute) photos, share any story that might even be a tiny bit relatable, join random groups that I know nothing about, and most importantly, I share cute videos of dogs.

Is this a bad thing? To my Facebook friends, maybe! The endless sharing of BuzzFeed articles and sorority competitions may even make some people want to remove me. And to that I say, go for it! If you're offended by a pug wearing a sombrero or finding out that I would be Elsa thanks to some Disney princess quiz, then I don't need your kind of negativity in my life. And hey, the first step is admitting you have a problem, right?

So to my fellow Shannon's of the Facebook world, share and comment on everything, my friends.
