The 5 Best Apps to Kill Time Without Internet

Hey y'all!

It's officially the holiday season!!! Now before you roll your eyes and grumble to yourself that skipping over Thanksgiving and heading straight into Christmas is one of the most annoying things ever --- let me just stop you right there. I consider the "holiday season" to include Thanksgiving. When it's December, that's Christmas season. So don't worry your pretty little head!

But back to what I was saying, it's holiday season which means lots of traveling for most of us. If you live far from home or are planning on taking a trip, then you'll probably be flying. And unfortunately, not every single plane has wifi (..yet). So what exactly are you supposed to do with all that free time without being able to scroll through Instagram?

Well, you could listen to some podcasts. But if you're not into that kinda thing, then you've obviously stumbled upon the right blog post! I get a tiny bit anxious on planes, so I always make sure to have a few apps installed that don't require internet to access. If I'm feeling like I'm about to freak myself out, I'll put in some headphones and get to work de-stressing. I hope these can bring you a little bit of nostalgia for those OG iPhone games.

Just don't forget to download the games BEFORE you board the plane, ya know, since you won't have internet ;)

1. Candy Crush
Okay, I KNOW this is basic. But it's fun...I promise! At one point, everyone and their mothers had this phone downloaded on their phone, so we all pretty much know how to play. If you don't though, it's pretty straightforward. Different levels have different requirements (i.e. get rid of all the chocolate blocks, let the cherries and chestnuts fall off the board, etc) so I can't really explain every level. It's super fun and a mindless distraction when you're stuck up in the air for a few hours!

2. Solitaire
Another oldie, but a goodie. I've always loved solitaire even though I'm pretty freaking bad at it. Like actually laughably bad at it. But thankfully, this game has hints and resets so if you suck, it can still be fun! This app has a bunch of different style deals, daily challenges, multiplayer, and replay. You can also customize the table and cards which is a cute little detail. I think I've had this app on my phone for at least 3 years and I never plan on deleting it!

3. 2048
This game is ADDICTIVE!!! It was a huge thing when I was in high school, and I still think it's a good one to play now. You start off with a few tiles with the number 2. You slide the tiles over to match them with the same number, and then they add together to get to 4. You want to keep sliding your tiles until they are all added up together. But as you slide, number blocks appear. You get to keep playing as long as the entire board isn't filled up. It can be fun to try to slide as fast as you can and see how far you can get. It can be mindless and you can play a game pretty quickly!

4. Temple Run
Should I be a little embarrassed to admit that this game gets my heart pumping?? Chasing games are so fun but also scare the heck out of me. Basically, you select your character that has stolen an object from a temple aka the entire plot of Indiana Jones. You're now being chased by this creepy monster and have to swipe, jump and duck all of the objects in your path. Tilt your phone to control what side of the screen your character runs on. The longer you play, the faster it gets. Again, it's a little thrilling to be outrunning skull monkey things, but it's still so fun!

5. Jetpack Joyride
Another app that's a little bit more on the heart-racing side. (Is it obvious that I don't get much excitement in my life??) You have to dodge people, electric fences and tons of other obstacles all while wearing a jetpack. Your character runs across the floor and you use your touch to control how long he stays in the air while dodging objects. There are also achievements to reach on each level to earn more coins and level up. It's definitely one of those games where you go "ugh okay just one more time!"

So what about you? Do you have any apps that you just totally can't live without on a long trip? Let me know down in the comments below because I have a lot of traveling to do!

Sarah
