15 Healthy Snack Ideas That Won't Break the Bank

Hey y'all!

So I'm a member of like a lot of facebook groups. What can I say? I like reading other people's drama and also pitching in a few of my own ideas. I was recently scrolling through my timeline and saw two different posts in different groups asking
"Hi 🙂 so I’ve just started a new healthy eating lifestyle.. but what are some of your favorite healthy snacks??"
"Looking for snack ideas to eat!"
And girlies, have I got them for you! I don't think anyone should feel guilty for snacking. As long as you're making healthy choices, then it's okay. It's important to listen to your body. So if you need a snack, then eat a snack!

1. Celery topped with peanut butter and raisins
2. Fruit with a nut butter (I like bananas and apples with peanut butter)
3. Veggies and hummus (I like carrots, broccoli, and celery)
4. Natural popcorn + nutritional yeast
5. Frozen grapes + cherries
6. Roasted chickpeas
7. Edamame
8. Avocado toast (my favorite recipe)
9. Peanut butter and banana sandwich
10. Steel cut oats with almond butter and banana
11. Kale chips (Toss with olive oil, salt, pepper. Bake for 5 min at 375° F)
12. Green Monster Smoothie (my favorite recipe)
13. Sweet potato fries (Toss with olive oil, salt, pepper. Bake for 15 min on one side, flip for 10 min at 425° F)
14. DIY energy ball bites (ideas here)
15. Almond milk + berry smoothie (my favorite recipe)

Try not to just snack because you're bored. Not only will you pay less attention to your portion control, but your body doesn't need the extra food. I've said it before and I'll say it again, listen to your body! It knows what you want and what you need.

But, if you're finding yourself hungry after you've just eaten a big meal, then you actually may be thirsty. Without going into too much science, if you don't drink enough water, then your body can confuse hunger and thirst signs. The best way to make sure you're just thirsty? Drink an 8oz glass of water and wait about 15 minutes. If you're still hungry, then maybe it's time to snack.

Also, pay attention to your cravings! This is also a key sign of what your body may be lacking. Cravings are our bodies way of telling us that you might be running a little low on specific nutrient, vitamin or mineral. Craving french fries? You probably didn't get enough healthy fats during meal time.

Your body may crave processed unnatural foods, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it contains the things your diet is missing. If you constantly find yourself having cravings, then try to do some research into what types of foods you should be including in your meals! I found this article to be really helpful for general cravings.

Any snacks you feel like I'm missing out on? Let me know down in the comments below. I'm always up for trying new things!

xo,
Sarah

  1. This list is super helpful! You pretty much covered all of my favorites- especially nutritional yeast popcornI also like how you go into the science behind cravings- I never knew that they could be a sign of nutrients we're lacking!

  2. Oh I love this list! I have been wanting to get creative with my meals in the summertime because I have a little more free time. One thing I've loved is avocado toast, and I gotta try your recipe! Thanks for these suggestions!
