10 Things You Should Amazon Prime for Your First College Apartment

Hey y'all!

So Michael and I recently moved into an unfurnished apartment. The last two years we've been living in an apartment that came with pretty much everything you could possibly need. The only problem? It was all the typical "college" apartment style furniture with dark wood and silver metal sides. Not so cute.

I was so excited to move into a new place and to get to make it feel a lot more like home. It got me thinking that I should share some of my Amazon Prime favorites in my new place. Don't have a prime membership? Sign up here for a free 30 days. Plus it's even cheaper for college students. I promise you won't be disappointed.

1. Zinus Mattress - This mattress is under $300. Yes, you read that right. UNDER $300!! I did some searching on the web to find an affordable "bed-in-a-box" that was actually comfortable. This one checked all the boxes for me! It's way more comfortable than I was expecting too. We have the queen 12-inch!

2. Bed frame - Going along with the mattress, don't forget to pick up a bed frame! I purchased this one for two different reasons. One, you don't have to have a box spring. Two, it gives you plenty of space to store stuff underneath your bed. In a college apartment, storage is everything, so it's important to make the most of your space.

3. Bamboo bed sheets - Soft, silky and sustainable. I purchased these in black and I love them! I haven't had any sort of issues with pilling or color transfer (which I was initially a little worried about). I want to pick up another set in a different color! There's plenty of choices for any color scheme.

4. Echo Dot - Alexa, play Despacito. If you don't own one of these yet, your life will be changed forever. I use mine to play music, set timers, make note of my grocery list, and even track my Amazon packages. I have some 'smart bulbs' on my wishlist since this device is compatible with turning on/off lights. It's always getting smarter so it's nice not having to constantly upgrade to get the "newest" version.

5. Command strips - Who says command strips are only for dorms?? Save yourself the heartbreak of getting fined for having a hole in your wall and just buy these bad boys instead. We love saving money, so stock up from Amazon instead of running to the nearest grocery store and paying major $$.

6. Over door bathroom organizer - There's nothing worse than having what seems like a million different cords tangled together from your straightener, blow dryer, curling iron, etc. Now you won't have to wait around for your hot tools to cool down before putting them away. You can just place it in the basket and get going with your day. Bonus points: there are a ton of color options (hello, rose gold!) because who says organizing has to be boring?

7. Toolkit - I linked a pink one because I just think it's so cute and girlie! You never know when you might need a screwdriver, hammer, measuring tape, or anything else that comes in this 103-piece set. It's super affordable and you won't be SOL when you try to put together your new IKEA furniture.

8. First aid kit - Whether it be after shaving in the shower or getting too crafty with a kitchen knife, we've all cut some part of our body and couldn't find a bandaid anywhere. Or even worse, you just slapped a band-aid on without any type of disinfectant because your mom didn't raise no wuss. Admit it. We've all been there. Avoid getting an infection and just buy this kit that's under $10.

9. Cleaning set - Trust me when I say you'll want to clean everything as soon as you move in. You never know if a gross group of boys lived in your place before and to be completely honest, the "cleaning job" your apartment complex will attempt to do before you move in would make your grandma roll over in her grave. This set is natural, cruelty-free and earth friendly!

10. Himalayan salt lamp - No, you don't have to be a hippie like me to own a salt lamp. I don't know how true it is that they help to combat EMF's and purifying your air, but it gives off just the perfect warm glow. I use it in my bedroom at night instead of turning on the super bright overhead light.

I hope you enjoyed this post. I learned the hard way what essentials I needed but thankfully Prime only takes 2 days to get sent to my front door. Get ready to live that somewhat #GrownUpLife because baby, you're officially out of the dorms!

xo,
Sarah

  1. Sounds like you have a fabulous set up in your new apartment. I’m glad you’re no longer on the twin plastic mattress. You need good sleep to study hard.
