How I Decorated My Apartment on a College Girl's Budget

Hey y'all!

I love home decor. I could spend hours on end walking around Target, Home Goods or Hobby Lobby, just looking at all of the stuff they have. But I think we can all agree that buying stuff for our homes adds up pretty quickly. When I first moved in, I always had to remind myself that it's a marathon and not a sprint!

In all honesty, I'm not completely in love with the space I live in right now. Since I'm still in college, I rent my furniture. I rented it through my apartment complex so it was a "get what you get and you don't throw a fit" situation. All of the furniture is dark wood tops with silver metal trimmings. Definitely not the vibe I'm going for.

So I thought I would share with you some of my favorite pieces I have in my apartment that helps to make it feel a little more like my own space (but are still super affordable)!

I have had my eye on this piece for a while. When I was younger, I used to collect crystals and rocks that I thought were cool, so I thought this terrarium was a really unique way to show them off without having them spread out over a table. I also really want to get a small fake succulent to put on top of the stones to add a little bit of greenery to the space!

Home decor on a budget. Tassel pillows. Wicker basket. Throw blanket. | texasweettea

If you have a big empty space that you think needs a little extra something, try purchasing a basket to fill with extra throw pillows and blankets. It's super easy and looks very chic. I've also seen this done with wire baskets and just using blankets rolled up!

Believe it or not, I actually made this one myself! I just found a branch outside, purchased two types of different textured yarn, and went to work. If you're interested in seeing exactly how I did this, I can definitely make a blog post about it! It's such an easy and affordable way to make cute decor.

If you're not crafty though, I linked a look alike version that you can purchase!

Faux Cow Skull (linked similar)
This is actually a Halloween decoration, believe it or not. It actually has an option for the nose and eyes to light up green and purple! I thought it was pretty realistic looking, and most cow skulls are very much out of my price range. I added the flower crown to make it a little more girlie and boho!

Bonus points: it's made out of plastic so I know that no animals were harmed in the making of it!

Letter Board (linked similar)
I found this letter board while I was home visiting my family in Texas. Can you guess how much I got it for? How about $10? Yup, isn't that a freaking steal! These things usually cost big bucks, so when I found this super affordable one at Walmart, I knew I had to have it. I can't wait to customize it for different seasons and things like that. I totally recommend purchasing one of these if you can find one!

I tried to link an affordable option, but I could only find smaller sized ones. If you are interested in one thats larger, you're going to have to be willing to splurge (or search every Walmart around you)!

I hope you were able to find some inspiration from my favorite pieces. I definitely can't wait to move into a place where I get to purchase my own furniture so I can truly feel like it's my own home. But for now, my college apartment will just have to do!

    1. Hi Brenda! I found it near the book section in my Walmart, but it was the only one so I'm not sure if maybe it was misplaced and there were more somewhere else in the store! I hope that helps though. It seriously was an amazing price!
